Dads Take Your Child To School Day

Today is Florida Dads Take Your Child to School Day.

The yearly event, which Broward County Public Schools has been holding for about two decades, has grown into a statewide initiative.

BCPS Equity and Diversity Director David Watkins says it is meant to encourage fathers and father figures to become more engaged in children's education throughout the year.

"Not only helping them with their homework, and participating in reading initiatives, but also being a part of our parent/teacher associations, our school advisories, volunteering."

The Fatherhood Project reports children with actively involved fathers are 43% more likely to earn A’s and 33% less likely to repeat a grade than those without engaged dads.
