The Florida Attorney General announcing a new parental rights division of his office today during a press conference from Jacksonville.

AG James Uthmeier says concerned parents can contact the new office if they believe a school district is interfering with their parental rights or their child's well-being.

He says an online portal will also be available to parents to report perceived harmful content or potential rights infringement. The new office helps enforce the Parental Rights in Education Act passed in 2022.

The Parental Rights in Education Act, also known as the "Don't say Gay Bill," does not contain the term gay, but the terms "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" do appear within the legislation.

In April 2023, the Florida Board of Education expanded the ban on teaching about sexual orientation or gender identity, with the exception of health or reproductive courses, to all grades K–12.
