BROOKSVILLE -- An elderly woman attacked early Monday by three pit bulls remains hospitalized as the owner of those dogs faces potential fines.
Ralph Hughes, 55, is facing three citations for a second offense of a Public Nuisance Animal and three counts of an Unrestrained Animal. He could end up paying $2,100 in fines.
The Hernando Sheriff's Office says Hughes was ticketed on January 30th for those same three dogs. In addition to the public nuisance charge, deputies say the three pits were unvaccinated and unlicensed. Hughes got a $1,500 fine that time.
The victim suffered severe dog bites to her legs. The woman's injuries are not life-threatening. The Sheriff's Office says Hughes has surrendered all three dogs to animal control.
